Profile Information

"How are you involved in preparing for the changes that peak oil, economic instabilty and climate change are bringing, and in creating resilience and sustainable life style in our communities?"
Part of the organizing team of Transition Caledonia in the NEK. I set up meetings, reskilling classes and work parties for Trans Cal., as well as join in with love and enthusiasm.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I have felt the need for transition coming for a long time, and want to be a vital member in the changing times. I am currently studying Druidry with the Green Mountain Druid Order which has added in many ways to my ability to communicate with the world around me.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I spent most of my childhood with my great grandmother who was born in 1900, who shared her wisdom with me. I am a Psychic reader and intuitive healer by profession. I have been involved in the community I live in serving on the school board for 3 separate times most of which I have been chairman. I am pretty good with getting things moving and helping to steer conversations in a productive manner.

Green Holiday Challenge

I love the holidays, despite the consumption. For many years now my family has made an effort to celebrate Yule for its true meaning of family, friends, love and joy. This year I have made a pledge to not buy any wrapping paper. As I am the one in the family who ends up with this task, that means no one in my house will be buying wrapping paper. Now this might be a tiny thing to do, but I believe it will still make a difference in consumption, particularly if others were to join us in this effor… Continue

Santa goes Green

I was in a local store called H.O.P.E. which stands for helping other people every day. It is a wonderful little shop, with second hand clothes, books and housewares...but it also has a food shelf, and is the home of project prom (a free prom dress rental shop). My daughter volunteered at H.O.P.E. this summer and in my opinion this non profit truly has it going on. It's hip enough that teenagers to feel comfortable shopping there and what it does for the community is truly wonderful. But I am ge… Continue

Barter and Trade...Loving eggs

A few years ago, my husband and I decided to get some chickens. We decided to let them be free range as we have a 4 acre field in front our house...As they were to be free range, I liked to think of them as Gypsies and decided to paint their house like a Gypsy wagon with the words Happy Chicken Wagon boldly on the side. When I went to pick my chicks up from my friends house my husband loaded the Happy Chicken wagon into the back of the truck and down the road I went, with the help of my true far… Continue

The power of youth

It's been a busy couple of weeks here in the NEK, and Transition Caledonia has been active on the work party front. One of the main pieces of our community is that we are incorporating the thought of many hands make light work. Last weekend on Saturday the 19th we gathered at the homes of Paul and Audrey Tomasi and cut, split and stacked a lot of wood. This Saturday the 26th, we cleaned, cleared and moved wires in Elaine's basement in order to get her ready for weatherization. An 1812 house with… Continue

The Almighty Potluck...

One of the most important ingredients in building a community is sharing meals together. Family gathering are almost always accompanied by breaking bread, carving the turkey & eating cake....Food is not only nourishing to the body, but the soul. As we walk down the path of Community Resilience through this time of transition it's important to add heart to what we do. Spend time together in a social setting, get to know one another. One of the best ways to do this is through eating one anothe… Continue

Hi Sali,

Free Vermont Radio can become the artists voice of transition. There are many great songs in the play list waiting to be discovered. One of my favorites is by Sid Gulick "To many people" ;)

Hi Sali! I have just joined Transition Caledonia and am looking forward to the upcoming meeting. I noticed that you mentioned that you are looking for spiritual books on your Myspace web page. We have 100's of books on esoterics that range from Astrology to the esoteric meaning of bathtub rings. We are not giving them away but we do have a free lending library if you or others are interested.
