Navigating the Transition

Vampire Electronics

I got this term from a Bill McKibben article in some publication or other—I can’t remember where, he shows up in so many magazines. Thank you, Bill, for all you do.
I’d known about the phenomenon long before I had the name and I’d already done something about it in my house (more about that later). But the term is so descriptive!
I first ran across it when I read the statement: “75% of the electricity used in consumer electro… Continue

Recreation in a Post-Oil World

Navigating the Transition

Recreation in a Post Oil World

Everything in my life these days goes through the “Energy Descent” filter. That is, as I look at various aspects of my life--my food, my travel, my entertainment, my recreation, and so on--I ask myself, “What will this be like in a future when energy will be much more expensive and I will have to live using less energy?” In today’s column I reflect on recreation in an energy constrained world.

I’ve been a p… Continue

Hi Ron, The business, which if i recall correctly is a food hub, should be under GROUPS. Les Squires left them a message, asking that they list under GROUPS, and then one of the individuals enter their name under MEMBERs. Ideally, one would join as an individual first, then list whatever groups they like. Annie

Thanks Ron, I appreciate your sentiment. Please consider becoming a member of Vermont Healers.org too. We want to provide a portal for Vermonters to know who the healers are in their communities. We are having a board/member meeting tonight at 6pm in Montpelier, if you would like to join us. I have felt for a very long time that as we communicate more and more on a global level through the internet, we must spend equal time reconnecting to our neighbors and community. In the end, it is all about energy, isn't it? Our mind - body - spirit energy towards each other and the planet to manifest the abundance we all need to thrive. Time to build relationships and trust.. this transition site has terrific energy for just that. Thanks again, Marie

HI Ron, Wondering about new member Kate Ellen, not alot to go on on her profile. Let me know if you get an answer back from her. If folks want to join, I feel like they need to put out something more than"later". Thanks Annie

Thanks for the welcome! I am not too familiar with any of ACORNS initiatives, but I am interested in getting involved with any permaculture groups in Middlebury. I am new to the area and currently live on New Leaf Organic Farm in Bristol. Any suggestions on community events I could attend to get involved?

HI Ron, I think I did it! The change in the profile question may take some time (36 hrs) to get on there, so let's watch. It will be a little crazy with folks having already signed on and answered the old question, but I guess we'll survive. Best, Annie

Hi Ron, A suggestion for the registration process - The first question, "How are you currently involved in the Transition movement" might be too narrow a question - someone might be up to their ears in relocalization, community building etc etc , and answer that they are not a part of the "Transition Movement" - which of course, they are in essence if not officially. How about a broader question: something like "How are you involved in preparing for the changes that peak oil, economic instabilty and climate change are bringing, and in creating resilience and sustainable life style in our communities?" What do you think? Thanks, Annie

Hi Ron, I appreciate your kind welcome. Yes, Winthrop is 13 miles from Potsdam, where the Canton-Potsdam Hospital is. C-PH is a member of the Fletcher Allen group. I was part of a group trying to generate Transition for Canton-Potsdam (two university towns that are 10 miles apart). Saw that you had surgery - I guess it went well, since you're here and welcoming all of us newbies! Cheers!

Hey Ron, thanks for the welcome. All this is really encouraging. It's so important that we work, share, and think together about these things, our lives. And it's also a lot of fun! I'll check out that book when I get a chance (winter reading!) peace.

Hi Ron, Thanks for dealing with that gift function. Whew. Glad to hear you are doing well with the hip replacement. And chickens! Such a good thing. Best, Annie
