"How are you involved in preparing for the changes that peak oil, economic instabilty and climate change are bringing, and in creating resilience and sustainable life style in our communities?"
The Northwest Earth Institute is recognized as a national leader in the development of innovative programs that empower individuals and organizations to transform culture toward a sustainable and enriching future. Since 1993, over 100,000 people throughout the United States and Canada have taken our courses and in 20 regions outside the Northwest, “sister” earth institutes have formed to address local issues, organize discussions, and empower local communities.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
To underscore the powerful effect of personal change, NWEI holds the following mission: Inspiring people to take responsibility for Earth.
NWEI has spent the past 16 years motivating individuals to:
• examine and transform personal values and habits,
• accept responsibility for Earth, and
• act on that commitment.
We seek to partner with other organizations involved in the Transition movement to further the goal of creating sustainable communities that foster environmental and social change.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
Today, NWEI offers seven study guides for small groups. These self-guided discussion courses are offered in workplaces, universities, homes, faith centers, neighborhoods, and community centers throughout North America. Each program encourages participants to explore values, attitudes, and actions through discussion with other people.

Hey Caitlin,
Re VEI comment below. "Carolyn" and VEI are already here! Space cadet that I am. So much going on, it's hard to remember everybody all the time! I was reminded because 6 people joined the VEI group this morning. She must have taken my suggestion and used the "Invite" feature.
Cheers! George ~
Cheers! George ~
Thanks for your patience in 'navigating'!
This ning thing does have a learning curve, but it does turn out to be pretty darn useful once you get the hang of it..
If you're in touch with VT Earth Institute folks, encourage them to join, (as Individuals!!, {grin}), post a group and their specific! ; ) , events. I've probably run this by Helen put she's pretty busy with the Farm. I should contact the intern, I guess.
Thanks for posting under 'events' as I requested. However, this isn't a "specific event". My understanding is it's programs you offer that are then scheduled locally. This should probably be in the group page. I'll let it ride for now, but If it turns out it's perpetually at the top of the list from the 18th thru the end of the year, we'll have to figure out another way.
Did I see from your website you have sister 'Earth Institutes" in various states? What is your relationship with the Vermont Earth Institute headquartered at Knoll Farm in Waitsfield, VT?
Cheers, George ~
Cool'nGroovy. If you could upload a photo of yourself to replace the NWEI logo that would be perfect. Or you can just be the default, which is the sunflower you see in so many members!
Cheers!
Thanks, Caitlin, that addresses my concerns. Let me know if you have any difficulty with the changeover.
I have one further request and a suggestion. The material you posted as discussion is more appropriate on your group page. Please delete that discussion, and then feel free to post specific events , under, you guessed it, "Events". If you scroll down the main page you'll see that upcoming events are listed there, as well as recent activity in blogs, discussions, etc.
Thanks for your resilient response to my ulimatum! ; )
George ~
I have checked several other Transition ning sites where 'you' have joined and put up the same 'discussion'. Your purpose seems to be strictly commercial. Unless you contact me and convince me why I should not, I will remove your profile and all material be close of day tomorrow, Thursday.
Greetings and welcome! Sounds
wonderful, and just to clarify, members are individuals, not orgs. You'll notice "Groups" on the menu bar - this is the place for NWEI to shine, per se. .
First, please click "edit" on the top of this page and simply replace NWEI with your name. Now you can click 'groups' then click 'create group', and transfer whatever info from this page you like to the new NWEI page you creat there.
Thanks! And again, welcome!
George Lisi, Transition Vermont admininstrator ~
