Profile Information

"How are you involved in preparing for the changes that peak oil, economic instabilty and climate change are bringing, and in creating resilience and sustainable life style in our communities?"
I am a member of the Winoski Valley Permaculture group. I also teach and am trying to put together an interdisciplinary unit on food systems--both global and local.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Going local makes sense in every way, and now is the time to create the systems and infrastructure we need for long-term, vital communities. I'd like to be able to stay in my homestate of Vermont even when oil runs out. I realize we rely heavily on oil and other fossil fuels right now, and I want to create other more sustainable communities for the long term.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I like working in a group to organize events and grassroots efforts. I have some farming experience, and a lot of experience in teaching kids about the environment. I am a teacher, so I can be a liason to the public school system.

Transition Vermont and APPLE in the news on Alternet.org

It was fun to browse one of my regular news sources... alternet.org... and find a mention of Transition Vermont and the good folks working to get food growing on the Statehouse lawn. It's silly to think of it as race... the leaves opening on the trees outside now aren't racing one another. They're just doing what comes natural and they are all connected and helping nourish the tree... Goooooo APPLE! Thanks for your steady work to make the garden happen.

Hi Liza,
Sounds great! Do you know parents, (maybe even of yr student?), Greg (italian name), and Eva Cahill? Greg is a horticulturist (organically inclined), who wants to grow all the food for Calais! He's very knowledgeable, personable, and a great resource. They live on Robinson Cemetery Road. You might see if he wants to do some 'hands dirty' stuff with yr kids.

Hi Liza,
Great stuff! "I am a teacher, so I can be a liason to the public school system." Yes, transitioning the school system to prepare kids for the real world, will be key. Where do you teach, at what level?
Cheers! George Lisi, Transition Town Montpelier ~
