Here is some excellent internet research from Oliver Welters of Rhapsody in Montpelier, focussed on growing algae for food, especially home scale production. The hot links did not stay 'hot' when I cut and pasted his email here, so you'll have to pa…

It's because it's the powerful cheap energy we've found. I think the practical payoff outweighs any "deeper" psychological issues it exposes. (How do you feel about maple syrup?) Along these lines, I think you might really dig a surreal, fever-drea…

Man, this permaculture discussion has been fantastic. I've been living and breathing it so long but I've given barely any thought to "what it is" -- I just tell friends and relatives it's the study of what works. Really digging the brainfood here, t…

Cost Cutting Toolkit: Sustainable ways to reduce household expenses s
Or something like that ... just throwing the idea out to you in case it sparks your interest. Something you could hand to homeowners/renters perhaps. Maybe just concentrating on food; sprouting, maybe even 'far out' things like bioreactors and 'microlivestock' - just brainstorming at this stage. Folks are obivously, looking for ways to cut costs - how could we respond to that desire with ideas that are sustainable and 'transitional'
If this interests you, what would you put in that toolkit?

Greetings, Justin. Welcome!
"The actual work of Transition is local, but the conversation is global." Yes, and it seems to me that is one of the historically unprecedented strengths we have as we embark upon this historically unprecedented transition!
Thanks for all your good work. Look forward to exploring how we can synergise and partner as we pull this buggy along!
Cheers, George Lisi, Transition Town Montpelier ~

Profile Information

"How are you involved in preparing for the changes that peak oil, economic instabilty and climate change are bringing, and in creating resilience and sustainable life style in our communities?"
Right now (literally) working with Wishtank to develop a gorgeous series on the Vermont Transition movement/meme. We're using content from VT Commons and creating a great deal of our own.

I'm also working on a parallel project with an open think tank called Urban Evolution for a more intensive, logistics/details oriented conversation on DIY infrastructure, urban gardening, and community transition.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Being a native son, I was simply born into it.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I work with Back Brain Media, based in Burlington, and we've built a communication platform that's getting over 30,000 unique visitors a month. The actual work of Transition is local, but the conversation is global.
Your Favorite Books/Websites/Blogs/RSS Feeds for Information about the Transition Movement
VT Commons is exceptional. Other than the homegrown material, I recommend these:

Afrigadget -- a guide to low-tech and no-tech solutions in a total poverty environment, this is one of the most inspiring sites I've found anywhere.

Akvopedia -- entirely devoted to water purification and management. A very solid resource.

Chelsea Green -- Vermont-based publishing company with a long head-start on sustainability issues. Their website is surprisingly excellent and full of good brainfood.
Your Personal Website (if you have one)

Suggestions you have for improving our Registration questions. Getting to know you better.
Don't ask the Registration questions upfront. Just make it clear to users that they should fill in their profile details, once the account is created. Trying to answer all the questions made my session time out twice in a row -- very, very aggravating.
