"How are you involved in preparing for the changes that peak oil, economic instabilty and climate change are bringing, and in creating resilience and sustainable life style in our communities?"
I recently returned the central Vermont, the land which raised me. I am learning about the Transition movement, and it aligns with the lifestyle which makes the most sense to me. I am moving to Plainfield soon and am building the emotional, social, and practical foundation to support me as I enact my lifestyle ideals.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I think self-sufficient communities are the next crucial step in the evolution of our species. Humans have managed to create vibrant communities in the past, and we have the collective knowledge to create them anew. It is my greatest desire to homestead, and soon this lifestyle will be non-negotiable for many, if not all. It is simply a question of, are we ready?
I know that I cannot possibly create all the products I need to live well through all four (five? six?) of Vermont's seasons. That is where a supportive neighborhood comes in. I want to be surrounded by people who are happy with the work that they do every day to support themselves and their neighbors.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I'm not sure how I fit into the bigger picture yet. I see myself as brain-stormer, producer of goods for trade, and provider of endless enthusiasm for learning new skills. I am learning about Permaculture design principles and plan to take a certification course this summer. I believe in teaching to others what I know. I am learning how to teach by working at a local preschool/kindergarten Montessori. I am forming a local chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation to teach other about the importance of traditional diets based on locally produce, minimally and properly processed foods.
I am looking for elders to pass on their knowledge to me. I am a sponge in my youth, so that I may be an elder wealthy in wisdom.

Very perceptive comments Emily! Re Weston Price, do you know Margeret and Stuart Osha of Turkey Hill Farm in Randolph Center?
Speaking of passing on knowledge, you may want to check out Wisdom of the Herbs School where I teach and co-create with the Director, Annie McCleary.
I see you know Nicko - perhaps I'll see you at the Permaculture potluck next Sunday.
Cheers!, George Lisi, Transition Town Montpelier ~
