Ben,
I greatly admire for you for dedicating yourself to the daunting task of building differently from the norm. My love of natural building techniques has arisen for all kinds of reasons, but one of them you didn't mention is that it can be a comm…
A fine report, Katherine. And thanks for tabling with Cara. Maybe she should've brought her cow and handed out fresh milk to go with the others' cookies.
Pugly love,

Carolyn,
I'm another one who's reading and digesting yours, and others' comments. Thank you for your insight, as inspiration to push off into the middle of the river. "We are the Ones we've been waiting for."

I don't know how accurate these figures are, bu check out this link on embodied energy of the conventionally built home vs. the (undefined) "energy efficient" home: http://www.worldwatch.org/node/798

Louis, I think this is a great idea. Any way we could also share getting a blower-door test? That would require some training to use. I don't actually own a house, but I'd be happy to learn things and be part of a team. Renting is a good idea too.

"How are you involved in preparing for the changes that peak oil, economic instabilty and climate change are bringing, and in creating resilience and sustainable life style in our communities?"
I'm actively involved in Transition Town Charlotte. So far, after two meetings I am greatly inspired!
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I relate to the idea of making changes via grassroots movements. We cannot rely, nor should we ever have relied, on large corporations or the federal government. Since we're at a very critical time in climate and economic history, TT seems to be one of the best ways to reach out to expand community infrastructure and create/learn/build skills we will need to continue into the future.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
Go to meetings, listen, learn, engage, contribute, support, and pass the word.

Hey Dora! Can you tell I haven't checked my profile page in a WHILE :-) Just returned from tonight's meeting. Was hoping to see you. Next time. There was a good group I thought. Maybe 20-25. Lots of discussion. Very inspiring I thought.
I would love to learn more about cob construction. I saw pictures of internal walls that were beautifully detailed with great color pigment. Looks like a fun material to work with too
Hi Dora,
Glad to hear you are interested in green design. Have you heard about the cordwood building technique? We were able to cut white pine from our property and use the logs to build onto our post and beam home. It was a labor of love but we are enjoying the space we created. There is a great website www.daycreek.com with knowledgable folks who are really into cordwood building and were so supportive when we were planning and building our addition.

Welcome, Dora!
Sounds like you are aware of the Transition Town meetings that, I believe, have started in Charlotte? If not, leave me a comment and I'll put you in touch with the folks.
Cheers! George Lisi, Transition Town Montpelier ~
