Profile Information

"How are you involved in preparing for the changes that peak oil, economic instabilty and climate change are bringing, and in creating resilience and sustainable life style in our communities?"
I am helping to bring Transition Initiative to the Manchester, Dorset area. We have started the Shires Environmental Alliance, held enviro conference w/ Bill McKibben as speaker. I took TT training in Cambridge Mass. and will be making presentations in southern VT.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I feel strongly that we need to get back in touch with our planet. We can actually move forward by going back to the way we used to be in touch with our own food and energy. Producing locally just makes sense.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I hope to keep spreading the word and doing the deeds so we can move away from our dependency on foreign oil. We can save the planet and eat better food. What is not to like? We will continue to try and bring more awareness events to southwestern VT.
Your Favorite Books/Websites/Blogs/RSS Feeds for Information about the Transition Movement
transitionculture.org is a great U.K. blog
Transition handbook of course, Bill McKibben too.

Yes, the Burl/Montp axis is a hotbed. Do you have good Permie contacts in your area? I can ask my Permie friends for suggestions if not. We're blessed up here in that folks like Keith Morris, Mark Krawcyzk, Ben Falk and others are not only extremely knowledgeable, practicing Permaculturists, but are excellent teachers.

I'm putting together a few TT iniators in a (direct) email group, and may send somethin' out soon just to get the ball rolling.

Cheers! George ~

Thanks Bill,
Tracey floated the idea of a regional get together next summer. I've also been playing iwth various ideas and geographical scales. As I mentioned to her, Les Squires can connect us, for free, on a conference call. Maybe get some VT intiating folks together that way in early fall, just to connect and swap stories/ideas, no strict agenda? Waddya think?

Hello Bill,
I was one of those encouraged by Bill Calfee and Alan Benoit to join the Transition. I am sorry I missed the meeting the other night, but look forward to participating in future gatherings. I had the pleasure of listening to Bill McKibben at LTS a few months ago and feel the urgency to spread his message.
I look forward to meeting you and other Transition members.
Andy

Bill,

It was great to see you last night. I noticed a lot of people made the first step of joining Transition VT, but not the Manchester group. I have invited all those I recognized to join Transition Manchester as well... We'll soon see if we go beyond the 16 members!

Keep in touch,
Alan

Hey Bill,
Re yr comment to Carl below. It may take awhile for him to see it, so I just wanted you to assure you all of us on the Transition Town Montpelier initiating committee want to help raise awareness of other TTs! Congrats on a great first awareness raising event! I'm sure Carl will be glad to meet y'all and be helpful. If you have his direct email, it wouldn't hurt to send yr message that way as well.
Cheers! George Lisi ~

Carl, I am a member of the Transition Town Manchester group. We just did a slide presentation at the northsire bookstore on friday which was very well attended and received. I see that you are doing TT presentations at Solarfest. I will be there volunteering and our group was planning some type of presence. Having seen that you will be presenting we want to see if we can help out and/or make a pitch for one of southern VT's TT group. Let me know if that will work. I would be happy to send e-mail rather than post if that works better.
