Ben,
I'm thinking for the ride people should decorate their helmets with flower or vegetables from their or a willing donor's garden.

I will be in Lincoln Vermont on the weekend of the19th of June for a beekeeping workshop. We have kids in Burlington so I will probably be back at the end of August and maybe the end of July. I would like to see the final oven.Maybe we can connect on one of our trips up. It may be that we relocate up there at some point.

Hi Ben,

I think there might be some good interest in a PHVT workgroup. I should send you the email I got back from Jeff Gephart of Vermontwise Energy Services. Email me directly at dryoung (-at-) eco-logos (-dot-) net and I'll forward you his comments.

I have a potential client across the border in NH who is thinking of building a PH. He and I discussed Straw-bale and Natural Building techniques also and so I began to dig a bit deeper into the convergence of these. You and I began this same discussion a while back. I want to be able to be as informed as possible and be able to communicate the benefits and drawbacks of merging these together. I have begun documenting what I'm finding on my Eco-Logos blog: http://community.livejournal.com/sustain_ecology/. Any comments or new directions you may have would be appreciated.

I would love to be able to attend the Natural Timber Framing Workshop, but that weekend does not work for me. I have obligations in Brattleboro that day.

well, i'm glad i got involved when i did. just in the nick of time!
concerning coming to the academy to talk, i just found out that i'm teaching this course in the fall again, so maybe it would be better to schedule something then. i'm taking a course at yestermorrow this summer, the two week one in july, and would like to organize my syllabus around the concepts that i learn there. your talk could be a central energizing part of it, and could have added emphasis if you spoke both to my class, and to the community

Hey Ben! I just added your timberframing workshop to http://catalystnow.org - the Bioregional Bulletin is finally on its way! I'm going to poke around here and see what updates I can find on the Village Building Convergence. Looking forward to being in touch again. Cheers-

Dear Ben,
I met Mark Krawczyk on Sunday while visiting D Acres in Dorchester. He suggested I contact you about an earthen floor we'd like to install in the straw bale house we're building in Newbury, Vermont, this summer.
We'd like to find someone knowledgeable to do the work, rather than experimenting on our own. Have you ever built an earthen floor, or could you recommend someone else?
The floor would be about 800 square feet and will have radiant heat tubes beneath it.
Thanks,
Linda Ide

I'll send Peter a note, see what he thinks. Jeff Gephart of Vermontwise Energy Services and the VGBN Advisory Board might have some thoughts as well. I have not heard of any PH certified buildings in VT, but there are some that are close.

Ben,
I think that's a great idea. That certainly would be the right forum. Pete's a great presenter. I'm sure he would do a fine job of providing an excellent overview. I don't know if I would be the ideal person to present PH, as I feel I am still digesting most of what I've learned so far, but certainly would engage in a forum discussion. Another person who would be great to have and would certainly be capable of discussing the many technical aspects of achieving PH standards is Marc Rosenbaum.

Several discussions the current PH training cohort have had amongst ourselves and with PHIUS personnel have addressed the need for a good presentation toolkit - talking points in a format easily presented to groups such as BSR/VGBN, Architects, Builders and most important of all, owners who would be footing the bill! Getting something like this rolling would provide the impetis to get that going.

Hi Ben - Sorry I missed meeting you at the Boston gathering. After three solid days in the PH training, I needed to decompress. I had other business in Burlington on Sat. anyway.

Thanks for the site comment. That was a late-night tosser, trying to gel some very divergent thoughts. It needs a lot of work. Hopefully, I'll have an opportunity soon. I have not yet connected with Gwen, other than being somewhat familiar with her work. I'll need to look her up on TVt. I looked over EarthCAT when I was in the throws of the first draft of my Masters thesis several years ago. Very interesting model and one worth exploring further. I had not seen the LASER site until now. I'm beginning to think I have my work cut out for me!

Let's continue to talk NB/PH. I am a big fan of your work and would appreciate your feedback. Cheers!

Solidarity

The question that has been with me for the past year is "How do you create a grassroots movement specifically in Vermont?". I have been asking people who have been apart of organizing past movements and the obvious answer is elusive. Another question that has come out of the first is "How do you create solidarity?". And it seemed like more questions started piling up on me without any answers. How do you sustain a popular movement once you get a good initial response? And so on. There are many l… Continue
