Profile Information

"How are you involved in preparing for the changes that peak oil, economic instabilty and climate change are bringing, and in creating resilience and sustainable life style in our communities?"
At this point, I want to learn about Transition VT and connect with folks who address climate change and self-reliance on a community scale. I have helped organize a community garden project in Huntington which facilitates a connection between people in the community over a connection to land and local-self reliance. I also work at a farm in Huntington which hopes to be totally self-sustainable in the post-petroleum economy.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Personally, I try to live more, drive less, feed myself, and buy less. I trade in lifestyle luxuries to live a little lighter and try to do meaningful work which contributes to a positive vision for the future. I hope to share resources and inspiration with people through Transition VT.

Hi Alissa,

Good to hear from you! I haven't done much with this site, no time to focus on it yet, but it really helps that I get a message!

Where are you in CA? I am going to Chico, CA in March (16-24) to an intentional community where i lived for 10ish years, and part of the time I'll stay on an organic peach orchard where I worked off and on (Woodleaf Farm, owned by a dear friend, Carl Rosato-I think he might be well-known out there in some places....)

I hope you do make it for the 24th - I look forward to talking with you!

Thanks, and yes, I'm well and warm
Take care,
Guthrie

Hi Alissa,
Great to hear from you...I like the idea of meeting with interested folks at On the Rise. I actually work in Richmond and it's a nice in-between spot for Huntington, Richmond and Jericho.
Anyway, nothing is really happening yet transition-wise in Jericho, though there have been community education courses in land-use, peak oil, etc. over the last few years at our community center ( a great resource here; I teach yoga there and play fiddle in occasional contradances...)
I'm planning to attend that training in Montpelier (March 7/8) and know of some Jericho folks who might be interested in an initial organizing group.
I could see the possibility of a community garden, skillshare, farmer's market in Jericho...People definitely come out of the woodwork for the rare community events that do happen.
Let's be in touch!

Hi Alissa. Welcome!
"I want to learn about transition VT and connect with folks who address climate change on a community scale." Yes, that's a big part of what TT is about.
"Transition Vermont" is simply this web forum where we can all communicate, it is not an organizational entity, per se. Transition Town Montpelier is the first official Transition Town in the state, and there's a bunch of communities that are in the beginning stages. Charlotte, near you, is due to start meetings in Feb. See Ruah Swennerfelt in members and contact her if interested. Also, Laura Markowitz in Jericho (see 'members') is very interested in getting something going in that area.
Cheers! George Lisi, Transition Town Montpelier ~
