This group is devoted to strengthening communities and supporting emerging ecological and socially just community development.

This group was formed after the Jan. 25th Forum on Sustainable Community Development held at the Unitarian Church in Montpelier.
We had over thirty people attend with speakers from several local cohousing and land cooperative projects along with professionals in the world of affordable housing advocacy and cooperative lending.

Please use this space to post your community project, share your experience or ask questions.

Donna,
The Winooski Valley Permaculture group posts their monthly meeting potlucks as events here on the site. There was one scheduled for this past Sunday, tho' I imagine it was snowed out. Just check 'events'. If you want to plan ahead, before something's posted, leave a comment on Nicko Rubin's page to see if the next date is set. Cheers! George ~

Ben,
I would like to know about dates of future permaculture meetings. Will I find it on the site... or can you let me know. Very interested in what's happening on the sustainable community or co-housing scene in this area as I try to figure out my living situation.
Grateful for what you bring to Transition -
Donna

Jennifer and Micha,
You might want to post about your land in an allied discussion, Matching Landowners with Grower/Gardeners, as well. I just posted a note there alerting folks to this group.
Cheers! George ~

I have land in Brookfield and am looking to create community here. I have been developing it as a retreat center, focusing on individual wellness needs, hosting community celebrations, events, and educational workshops. I am interested in learning about models for community on my land and working with others to co-create a vision for sustainability on this piece of land or ways in which this land can be used to support the greater community through foodsharing, animal sharing, etc. I would love to hear about others experiences with embarking on this vision for community. www.twinpondretreat.com

Micha,
This sounds great. I just wish that you were closer. I have already begun developing my long term community without having land yet. so I need to be located between Montpelier and Plainfield. These things get tricky.....
This is a good place to put the word out though. I would suggest mentioning something about looking for others interested in coops in that area on the main page of Sust. Comm.
