Leave a message here for Annie McCleary to join the Transition Town Montpelier email list. Transition Town Montpelier is now the 6th "official" Transition Initiative in the United States, and the first in the East, along with Portland, Maine. The initiating committee—

Carl Etnier,
George Lisi,
Scott Sawyer, and
Deb Lisman—has been meeting
weekly since June 2008.
With support from a Mazer grant through the city of Montpelier and an anonymous donor, Transition Town Montpelier’s mission is to help facilitate the development of resilient systems for overcoming peak oil and climate change in Montpelier and surrounding communities. Our tools consist of Open Spaces, workshops, trainings, information sharing, networking, working groups, and passion for re-introducing a wide range of skill sets and developing visible manifestations of progress toward a more sustainable future.
Our first public event on November 4, 2008, "Transition Towns: From Oil Dependency to Resilient Communities" with Naresh Giangrande (one of the originators of the Transition Town concept in the U.K.), was a fantastic success with over 220 Vermonters gathered at the Unitarian Church for an incredible celebration of community power.
